Message with being told that a cup of coffee is hot and can burn you, or that eating fried fast food can make you fat....(gee I think I learned about hot and cold somewhere during my toddler years and it stuck with me ever since; the jury is still out on the second one though). It is further aided by a litigation-happy populous that then sues because they weren't "properly" warned about the dangers of such evil products they thrust in our face in return for taking the money from us.

I was just talking about this at lunch with a fellow tt.net member, Joe Testosterone (not his real name), and I mentioned in this situation that I am not in favor of legislating seatbelt usage - it's up to the individual to make their own choice. Then Joe wisely added: Let the Darwin theory do the job of separating the smart folks from the dumb ones :-)

From my perspective, I choose to wear my seatbelt at all times when driving (working as an engineer at a seatbelt/airbag company for 4 years helped solidify this decision for me). If you choose not to wear your seatbelt, it's your choice and I hope nothing bad ever comes from it. I hope and pray that you never get into an accident, but if you do please don't sue Nissan for not warning you to wear your seatbelt, and Shell Oil Company for selling you gas that allowed you to drive your car into the back of the tractor-trailer, and Michelin for making tires that fit your car.

Ok, so I hope you get my point, and please note that I was not directing this at you, but making a general statement to anyone who has read this far that there are consequences (good and bad) associated with all decisions we make. If people would take full responsibility for their actions/decisions then life would be simpler for the majority of folks and those who made the bad decisions would learn a very valuable lesson.

I was agreeing with FourZero's post on the basis of his response and not advocating that people should be forced to wear their seatbelts. And just like quitting smoking - it greatly increases your chances for increasing your lifespan.
